{"id":16838,"date":"2024-06-26T17:17:25","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T15:17:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.namarealestate.it\/?p=16838"},"modified":"2024-07-08T16:23:54","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T14:23:54","slug":"ralphs-corner-san-vincenzo-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.namarealestate.it\/en\/ralphs-corner-san-vincenzo-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Ralph\u2019s Corner\u2014San Vincenzo People"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Today I felt&nbsp;\u201c<em>special joy<\/em>\u201d since&nbsp;this day&nbsp;was&nbsp;a \u201c<em>mini mission<\/em>\u201d to deliver invitations&nbsp;for&nbsp;my <strong>73<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;birthday party<\/strong> to&nbsp;some&nbsp;shop-owner friends&nbsp;on&nbsp;my&nbsp;walk to the sea. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my previous article, I listed the reasons that led me to choose San Vincenzo as my new home (here&#8217;s the article >>> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.namarealestate.it\/en\/introduction-to-ralphs-corner-coming-to-san-vincenzo\/\"><strong>\u201cIntroduction to <em>\u201cRalph\u2019s Corner\u201d \u2013 Coming to San Vincenzo\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">I always enjoyed the challenge of speaking Italian to my friends. &nbsp;I put on one of my favorite linen shirts,&nbsp;donned my hat and said&nbsp;\u201c<em>bye<\/em>\u201d&nbsp;to my wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a bridge I must cross,&nbsp;over&nbsp;a small highway,&nbsp;that feels like a portal into a new world. &nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;because upon reaching the other side,&nbsp;after I duck&nbsp;under&nbsp;a few bushes, a&nbsp;magnificent&nbsp;view of our quaint&nbsp;\u201c<em>paese<\/em>\u201d (town) is revealed. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;accented with&nbsp;the&nbsp;sparkling rich blue of the Sea peeking through the buildings at the end of the street. &nbsp;I smiled as usual. &nbsp;Immediately, I&nbsp;was&nbsp;welcomed by the wonderful familiar scent of jasmine, from the many flowers lining the street. &nbsp;I reflected&nbsp;on the fact that I didn\u2019t know a single person two years ago and didn\u2019t speak a word of Italian. &nbsp;What was I thinking&nbsp;then? &nbsp;How could I expect any small community to quickly accept me as a resident?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em><strong>Ciao Raffaella<\/strong><\/em>,\u201d I said as I entered the <em>Pescheria<\/em> (fish&nbsp;shop). &nbsp;After some small talk,&nbsp;I told her of my party. &nbsp;She beamed with a broad, warm smile and said she\u2019d try to make it,&nbsp;warning&nbsp;that&nbsp;she often worked late. &nbsp;I mentioned I would stop to pick up some fish on the walk home. &nbsp;\u201c<em>A dopo,<\/em>\u201d (later), I cheerfully said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, it was the wine store. &nbsp;This is a really \u201c<em>figo\u201d<\/em> (\u201ccool\u201d) place because they offer&nbsp;many&nbsp;very inexpensive wines \u201c<em>on draft,\u201d<\/em> that people&nbsp;use to&nbsp;refill jugs. &nbsp;The store also offers&nbsp;bottled water,&nbsp;the finest&nbsp;bottled&nbsp;wines, liquors and even olive oil. &nbsp;Prices are excellent!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cCiao Giacomo!\u201d<\/em><\/strong> I said to the young shop owner. &nbsp;He&nbsp;always shares a friendly smile and is patient with my broken dialogue.&nbsp;&nbsp;Giacomo&nbsp;was&nbsp;very&nbsp;happy to be asked to the party and indicated that he and his twin brother would come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next\u2026 <strong>my favorite little corner store<\/strong>, (like a convenience store, but with only the&nbsp;BEST&nbsp;items, and totally Italian&#8211;NOT&nbsp;some awful, commercialized&nbsp;store&nbsp;like&nbsp;USA&nbsp;chains). &nbsp;I regularly purchase <em>\u201cFormaggio con Tartufo,<\/em>\u201d (cheese with truffles). &nbsp;It is so incredibly good!!! &nbsp;And it\u2019s perfect with the fantastic Tuscan wines we drink! &nbsp;They also sell&nbsp;amazing jams. <em>&nbsp;\u201cLampone\u201d<\/em> (raspberry), is my favorite. &nbsp;<strong><em>Diego <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Anastasia<\/em><\/strong>, two of the owners, are&nbsp;so nice. &nbsp;It is such a joy to chat with them&nbsp;when I come. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And so it went\u2026&nbsp;I passed our hardware store, \u201codds and ends\u201d store, and stopped at our dentist, who&nbsp;expected tomake the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also passed our fabulous Insurance agent<strong><em> Fabio<\/em><\/strong>, who had already accepted the invitation with his wife, <strong><em>Sabrina<\/em><\/strong>. &nbsp;<em>Fabio<\/em> is a large, strong man&#8211;a true \u201c<em>man\u2019s man,<\/em>\u201d who quickly became one of my close friends. &nbsp;When I did have the unfortunate experience of a car crashing into&nbsp;the back of our car, he was on the scene within minutes and handled everything with professionalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Down by the Sea is the office of&nbsp;<em><strong>Nama&nbsp;Real&nbsp;Estate<\/strong><\/em>.&nbsp;The owners are&nbsp;certainly some of&nbsp;my&nbsp;closest, most special friends. &nbsp;It was <strong><em>Mary\u2019s <\/em><\/strong>ad that drew us to San Vincenzo originally. &nbsp;<em><strong>Antonio<\/strong><\/em>, her husband, is one of my favorite people ever! &nbsp;Not only do we have a bond in real estate, but many other things as well. &nbsp;As a company they&nbsp;skillfully handled our purchase of a new, unfinished home, while we were still living in California. &nbsp;Obviously it&nbsp;involved&nbsp;a multitude of necessary actions including paperwork, managing the builder, and even things after we arrived. &nbsp;They are among our best friends, and we get together frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also at <em><strong>Nama<\/strong><\/em>, is a most enjoyable assistant, <em><strong>Martina<\/strong><\/em>, who has a captivating smile, and is eager to help&nbsp;withanything. &nbsp;She and her fianc\u00e9 were thrilled to accept my party invitation, and I was so happy they did!&nbsp;&nbsp;Next door is my favorite gelateria,&nbsp;<strong><em>Petra<\/em><\/strong>,&nbsp;where I invited the attractive&nbsp;young&nbsp;sisters&nbsp;<em><strong>Giulia&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em>and <em><strong>Georgia<\/strong><\/em>, that&nbsp;run&nbsp;it. &nbsp;I was so glad they came!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was&nbsp;such a&nbsp;fun&nbsp;day;&nbsp;and I witnessed&nbsp;San Vincenzo&nbsp;exploding&nbsp;into Summer&#8211;when it\u2019s transformed from a small&nbsp;quaint&nbsp;town into a seaside resort filled with attractions,&nbsp;that supports&nbsp;up to&nbsp;<strong>70,000&nbsp;visitors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The party was at&nbsp;<em><strong>Casotto Pub<\/strong><\/em>, owned by my best friend, <strong><em>Stefano.<\/em><\/strong> &nbsp;He and his girlfriend, <em><strong>Andrea<\/strong><\/em> have&nbsp;been like \u201cfamily\u201d since the day we arrived. &nbsp;The first year,&nbsp;not only did&nbsp;we spend&nbsp;all of Christmas Eve with them and his family at the Pub, but we spent&nbsp;Christmas morning at my home, and the rest of the day together&nbsp;as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pub is an outstanding place for food, drinks, games,&nbsp;watching sports,&nbsp;karaoke\u2026&nbsp;or a party!&nbsp;&nbsp;By now, we had a guest list of 48 people, and <em><strong>Stefano<\/strong><\/em> decided to close the pub for the event. &nbsp;I was truly in awe!&nbsp;&nbsp;How could&nbsp;this&nbsp;happen? &nbsp;What town of only 7,000 would actually welcome a Californian, that couldn\u2019t even speak the language, and then choose to spend their time at his 73<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;birthday party?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Answer: &nbsp;San Vincenzo!!!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The party was an incredible success!&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forty-eight&nbsp;guests&nbsp;showed up, mostly&nbsp;less than&nbsp;half my age and didn\u2019t speak English! &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tasty&nbsp;dishes&nbsp;were&nbsp;served. &nbsp;Beer, fine wine, and drinks&nbsp;were&nbsp;enjoyed. &nbsp;We sang. &nbsp;Then sang some more. &nbsp;We danced. &nbsp;And&nbsp;then&nbsp;danced some more. &nbsp;Then&nbsp;we&nbsp;sang&nbsp;AND&nbsp;danced\u2026! &nbsp;It went on and on with a crescendo of laughter, smiles and shouts of joy! &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally four different custom cakes filled with chocolates and delicious fruits arrived, Limoncello was served, people sang&nbsp;\u201cHappy Birthday\u201d&nbsp;for&nbsp;a third time. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then&nbsp;the dancing, jubilation and karaoke continued. &nbsp;Radiant sparklers were&nbsp;handed out and&nbsp;waved. &nbsp;More songs were sung. &nbsp;Cheerful,&nbsp;young,&nbsp;interlocking&nbsp;\u201cpartyers\u201d&nbsp;snaked through the Pub as dancing got faster\u2026&nbsp;and the&nbsp;singing and&nbsp;laughter got louder\u2026&nbsp;and louder!&nbsp;&nbsp;They cheered. &nbsp;They hugged. &nbsp;They kissed\u2026 &nbsp;Never&nbsp;before&nbsp;have I been&nbsp;hugged and kissed so often!&nbsp;&nbsp;Suddenly,&nbsp;I&nbsp;was overwhelmed with emotion towards the&nbsp;wonderful&nbsp;people of&nbsp;the&nbsp;area,&nbsp;and felt uncontrollable tears forming&nbsp;in my eyes\u2026 &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was&nbsp;at&nbsp;that moment,&nbsp;when&nbsp;I fully and completely realized\u2026&nbsp;that&nbsp;<em>this<\/em>&nbsp;was exactly what&nbsp;I left a comfortable home in California for\u2026&nbsp;<strong><em>the&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>heart<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>&nbsp;and soul of a small<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>,<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>&nbsp;seaside<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>&nbsp;Italian town<\/em><\/strong>\u2026&nbsp;<strong>San Vincenzo<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I felt&nbsp;\u201cspecial joy\u201d since&nbsp;this day&nbsp;was&nbsp;a \u201cmini mission\u201d to deliver invitations&nbsp;for&nbsp;my 73rd&nbsp;birthday party to&nbsp;some&nbsp;shop-owner friends&nbsp;on&nbsp;my&nbsp;walk to the sea. &nbsp; In my previous article, I listed the reasons that led me to choose San Vincenzo as my new home (here&#8217;s the article >>> \u201cIntroduction to \u201cRalph\u2019s Corner\u201d \u2013 Coming to San Vincenzo\u201d).
